Audience and Industry

The Avengers (2012)

Development:

Development of the avengers started with the CEO of Marvel Studios announcing the plans to develop the film back in 2005. The creation of several other Marvel Films containing characters (like the Hulk and Captain America) where a necessary part of the development of The Avengers. These films were created to insure that characters crossing over from over films would seem generally appealing to people who had already watched those films, and thus make The Avengers appeal to those people. 

Because the CEO of Marvel Studios and Marvel Studios itself are incredibly wealthy the film was funded by the individuals who were there from its inception.

Pre-Production:

The script writers for The Avengers were Joss Whendon and Zak Penn. The casting process that started in 2009 continued into 2010 and by this time Marvel had announced that the film was to be shot in 3D. In october of 2010, New York City was announced as the primary film location.

Production:

Photography and filming for the film began in April of 2011 and finished in October the same year. During this period the set moved to various different film locations, ranging from a  NASA vacuum chamber to abandoned mushroom farm tunnels. They filmed using 3D IMAX cameras. The producers who produced the film were Jeffery Ford and Lisa Lassek.

Post Production:

The film was marked using a wide range of advertisement, ranging from viral trailers, to social media to aired television adverts. The film received universal critical acclaim with 92% fresh on rotten tomatoes from top movie critics. The film grossed well over a billion dollars after its release and made a net profit in excess off 500 million USD.

Les Miserables 

Development:

The film was based on the 1980 musical and 1862 french Novel 'Les Miserables'. Several studios agreed to make the film, these were; Universal Pictures, Cameron Mackintosh LTD and The Working Title Film. The owner of the Studio Universal Pictures is Ronal Meyer. The film had a budget of $64 million USD and the people that produced the film were Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward and Cameron Mackintosh. 

Pre-Production:

The film was scripted by William Nicholson and was directed by Tom Hooper. The film starred many famous actors, these included; Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman. The film was primarily filmed in the UK, with filming taking place in Greenwich, London, Chatham and Portsmouth. However some filming took place in France as well, the location in France where filming took place was a commune called Gourdon.

Production:

Filming for the film took place over 8 weeks and was done using 3D cameras.

Post Production:

The film was edited by Melanie Ann Oliver and Chris Dickens and was released in the UK on the 11/01/13 and in the US 25/12/12. Les Mis grossed $148 million USD in the USA and grossed $50 million USD in the UK. In total the film grossed $441 million USD. The film was released on Blu-ray  and DVD on March 22nd 2013. The film used several marketing campaigns, these included online trailers, bus posters and posters within Cinemas.

  1. Oliver, your blog is not up to date, this task required you to compare an american and a british film, you have not done that. You also need to have the answers to my research questions on your blog, you have failed to do that also.

    This is not a good start to the term. I suggest you post all work due as soon as possible.
